Vinyl Pressing Review

The Red Falcon Projects

Simply Ravishing

Reviewed by Rob Peoni on 07.10.2013

Fort Wayne, IN's The Red Falcon Projects burst on the EDM scene with an initial LP on par with the genre's heavyweights. An intricate latticework of sounds weaves hip-swaying beats for the masses. This dynamic duo drips aqueous synth lines and a broad palate of textures on the debut release from upstart imprint Dilated Time Records.

Ratings are based on a scale from 0-10.

Overall Sound:

This is an immaculately produced LP, particularly for a first effort from two unknown Midwesterners. The LP showcases a wide variety of textures in a perfectly paced, masterfully sequenced album. The vinyl rounds out the lower register of RFP's sound, softening the edges of the rhythms and bass without losing anything in the mix.

Pressing Quality:

High quality, durable, heavy black vinyl. No warping or weaving. The paper sleeve is standard issue, but the album artwork is out of sight. Aside from a full, 180 gram pressing I can't imagine strengthening this release.

Vinyl Noise:

Almost zero ambient noise on this release, which is ideal for an electronic LP. No noticeable static, popping, or skipping. Each note of RFP's intergalactic space odyssey is on display in all of its glory.

Overall Artwork:

TOBACCO of Black Moth Super Rainbow is responsible for the album's grizzled cover art. The neon pink lettering, god chain, green jumpsuit and swath of chest hair offer a self-deprecating jab at the stereotypical dance club enthusiast. The full-color, double-sided insert depicts the album's architects crafting their other-worldly sounds from the center of the earth on one side, and a soaring red falcon streaking across the galaxy on the other.

Overall Extras:

The first 100 LPs include a double CD, featuring a full album of remixes entitled 'Ravishing Extras.' The remainder of the 300 LPs include a digital download and full-color, double-sided insert.
