Vinyl Pressing Review

Eric & The Anxiety

Girl

Reviewed by Rob Peoni on 09.03.2013

Released in October 2012, 'Girl' is the latest LP from Eric & The Anxiety, the recording project of Portsmouth, NH songwriter Eric Ott. Limited to 100 copies on clear green vinyl. Ott officially retired from touring at the start of 2013. This collection of straightforward Americana finds the songwriter wrestling with the bittersweet end of his life on the road and the new focus on home recording.

Ratings are based on a scale from 0-10.

Overall Sound:

8.00

The production on this LP is crisp. No frills or fuss. The guitars are bright. The vocals are up front. The rhythms are tight. It's a long record, with hardly any time between tracks.

Pressing Quality:

7.00

The pressing is better looking than it is functional. The paper sleeve and jacket are standard issue. Our copy had some significant warping, that fortunately did not effect playback. The LP feels a little light and flimsy, but the sound is fine.

Vinyl Noise:

7.50

Very quiet pressing, with minimal time between tracks. There is some minimal static, but nothing pronounced. No noticeable popping or skipping present.

Overall Artwork:

7.00

The vinyl artwork differs in color from the CD and digital artwork. The golden cover of a woman in a hay field is ran through a green filter, which matches the pressing itself. The back cover is hand-numbered out of 100.

Overall Extras:

7.00

The album includes a digital download with an additional track entitled "Jenks, OK." However, there's not much in the way of extras beyond the download.
