Vinyl Pressing Review

Porcupine Tree

Fear of a Blank Planet

Reviewed by Finn Swingley on 02.10.2009

Porcupine Tree are an interesting UK based prog rock band based around singer / songwriter Steven Wilson. There is a strong influence of Pink Floyd as well as prog and metal, which ultimately results in a much more sonically interesting and melodically engaging blend than your typical prog rock band. Porcupine Tree records are pressed in limited quantities in Europe, so US imports can be very pricey. In this case, the record was manufactured (and purchased) in the Netherlands.

Ratings are based on a scale from 0-10.

Overall Sound:

8.00

Well produced and mastered music faithfully reproduced on quality vinyl.

Pressing Quality:

8.00

Quality pressing with no noticeable flaws.

Vinyl Noise:

8.00

Very quiet record, no flaws to speak of.

Overall Artwork:

7.00

Heavy cardboard gatefold cover has nice artwork, down to the labels on the records. I don't especially like cardboard inner sleeves though, as they tend to attract dust and scratch the records.

Overall Extras:

6.50

No download, but lyrics are included on inner sleeves.
